Consumer Decision Making Process Problem Recognition

Homework Assignment 1: Consumer Decision Making Process Problem Recognition When I was first introduced to the idea of longboarding, I thought that it was just a different type of fancy skateboard. As an individual who was not very good at skateboarding, I was skeptical of even trying the product out. However, after experiencing it for myself and hearing countless amounts of positive feedback about it, I began to consider getting one of my own. As a college student, getting a longboard of my own was no easy task being that funds were (and still are) quite limited. But after weeks of borrowing longboards from friends and contemplating whether to get one or not, I finally reached the decision that I was going to get one. This decision†¦show more content†¦When it comes to information searches, there are two categories including internal and external. Internal information searches mostly deal with the recalling of information in memory, which consists of what you have experienced and what you have conceptually gathered (Hawkins Mothersbaugh, 2010). On the other hand, external information searches seek information that is from an outside environment (Hawkins Mothersbaugh, 2010); this includes information that is non-marketing controlled such as information from friends/family, or marketing controlled such as information from brands or companies. In my experience, the guiding source of information that guided my information search was external information that I gathered from friends and family members who either own a longboard or had one previously. However, the other important component that came into place was what information I found on my own that. Since I was new to the idea of longboarding, I began researching the topic in general before I recognized my need for it. I continued to do research centered on longboarding all together to help gain a better understanding as well as continuing to talk to friends and family with more experience. Alternate Evaluation Based on the information that I externally gathered from my own research and friends and family, I started to narrow in on what I beganShow MoreRelatedConsumer Behaviour And Decision Making Process Essay1264 Words   |  6 Pagesliterature based on the order of the objectives. I would remind you that extremism in the defense o Essay Example For Students

I would remind you that extremism in the defense o Essay f liberty is no vice! And let me remind you also that moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue!Even at the beginning of his career, Goldwater adhered to conservative principles such as balancing budgets and limiting government. In fact, so successful was the new council that speculation soon mounted about the political future of its charismatic vice chairman. Although his uncle and father were both Democrats, Goldwater was a Republican because, he said, the Democrats had ruled Arizona with an arrogance that offended me.During his first term in the Senate, theSaturday Evening Postdescribed Goldwater as aggressive, articulate, colorful, and having more leadership potential than any other Republican in the past decade. HYPERLINK http://www.heritage.org/research/reports/2014/07/barry-m-goldwater-the-most-consequential-loser-in-american-politics l _ftn7 Goldwater became an outspoken critic of organized labor and its corrupt bosses like the Teamsters Jimmy Hoffa. He declared his o pposition to the concentration of power in any hands, whether of government, business, or labor. He constantly defended the independent entrepreneur and the small businessman, warning that any government big enough to give you everything you want is big enough to take away everything you have. HYPERLINK http://www.heritage.org/research/reports/2014/07/barry-m-goldwater-the-most-consequential-loser-in-american-politics l _ftn8 Goldwater was keeping his oath to support and defend the ConstitutionFirst, Goldwater declares that welfare ought to be a private concern promoted by individuals and families, by churches, private hospitals, religious service organizations, community charities. Goldwater understood that dependence on government support would do irreparable harm to the American character. In foreign policy, he proposes a seven-point program (excluding the use of nuclear weapons) to achieve victory in the Cold War, beginning with the objective of not merely fighting Communism, but winning the struggle. Goldwater had the wisdom to focus on total victory, an objective which succeeding conservatives, especially Ronald Reagan, would follow successfullyThroughout the 1964 campaign, Goldwater was unfairly attacked as a racist. He was called a hopeless captive of the lunatic calculating right-wing extremists by baseball legend Jackie Robinson. Civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. declared that if Goldwater were elected, the nation would erupt into violence and riots, the like of which we have never seen before. The major reason for the extremist rhetoric was Goldwaters reluctant vote, on constitutional grounds, against the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Goldwater, who had voted for the 1957 and 1960 civil rights bills, wanted to support the 1964 act but objected to two of its provisions: Title II (public accommodations) and Title VII (fair employment).

Inner Darkness Essays - Literature, Fiction, Culture, Orientalism

" Inner Darkness" Inner Darkness Reading Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness is a true study of how men come to lose their hope in humanity. It also displays the overtly cynical and sometimes racist and purist overtones that plagued Europe in its early days. During a cruise along the River Thames, Charles Marlowe reminisces on his days sailing through Africa, and how the experience has shaped his life. The supporting players in his life, and his selective memories of each one, paints a picture of the unknowing, rather prejudiced man he was before, and the wiser man he has become. In Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness , a combination of orientalism's view of "the other," feminism's patriarchal socialization, and Friedrich Nietzsche's nihilistic theories illustrates how overall prejudice leads to a fear of the unknown and clashes between cultures. Rather than trying to understand the natives, Marlowe and his colleagues take a position of control and sometimes antagonism towards them, leading to a realization that they have been sheltered by their Occidental lifestyles and missed out on vital life experience. Their only relation to the white man is as slaves, and to Marlowe, this is precisely how it should be. Watching the African-American rowers, he remarks "'We had enlisted some of these chaps on the way for a crew. Fine fellowscannibalsin their place'" (Conrad 35). What does Marlowe truly mean by this last portion? Is he simply happy for the extra hands, or glad to see black men working for the whites as they were meant to do for so long? Edward Said's discourse on Orientalism strongly supports the latter. In his essay, simply titled "Orientalism," he notes that the dynamic between whites and Orients "[Is] a relationship of power, of domination, of varying degrees of a complex hegemony" (Said 1870). And we do not help that relationship at all by using phrases such as "in their place," which only serve to bring the Orients down and strain the already complex relations that exist between the two parties. Because of this, the few complimentary gestures extended towards the natives feels slightly less significant and makes the contrasting portrayals all the more representative of Marlowe's lack of understanding. Although he considers the black sailors to be "in their place," he still extends the occasional expression of sympathy. Watching the slaves practically on their deathbeds, he marvels that "They were not enemies, they were not criminals, they were nothing earthly nownothing but black shadows of disease and starvation'" (Conrad 11). The word "shadows" says a good deal about how the blacks had been treated even before illness consumed them. Even watching them seconds from death, Marlowe cannot seem to get away from seeing in only the most negative terms possible. It seems to indicate that once they are gone, what little sympathy he has for them will cease, and they will be all but forgotten. In his own essay on Heart of Darkness , Chinua Achebe mentions Conrad's "[Bestowal] of human expression to the one and the withholding of it from the other" (1616). Indeed, the black characters remain all but wordless for most of the story. Even the portrayal of the African coast is plagued by obscurity, and treated as otherworldly when compared to Europe. In her article "Unspeakable Secrets," Anne McClintock describes Marlowe's first view of the coast as "[A] struggle that goes beyond the question of perception and involves the very stuff of language itselfAfrica is protean and featureless' because it has withdrawn beyond the horizon of new language" (41). Knowing the historical context, the reasoning could be that the whites have kept the inhabitants in their place for so long that speech has completely escaped them. The problem is that by depriving them of their faculties of speech, Conrad has upset the balance between Apolline and Dionysiac contrasts, as detailed by Nietzsche in The Birth of Tragedy. He describes the differing ideals with "[The] Appoline art of the imagemaker or sculptor ( Bildner ) and the imageless art of music, which is that of Dionysos " (Nietzsche). There must always be a certain contrast between the simple and Appolinic themes and the more bombastic, Dionysiac scenes, something that Marlowe seems

The Current Poverty Lines †Economics Essay

The Current Poverty Lines – Economics Essay Free Online Research Papers The Current Poverty Lines Economics Essay In 1996, the United Nations designated that year as the International Year for the eradication of poverty; unfortunately poverty statistics for 1996, as reported by the National Council of Welfare, show that Canada came nowhere near to meeting that goal. Living in poverty is more common among families in our community than we believe. Everywhere you go, there is always some homeless person asking you for change, or you hear about another family on the news asking for help because they cant pay their bills, or are getting evicted from their home. Another surprising statistic was that between 1989, to 2000 Hunger Count 2000 reported that the food bank use had grown an astonishing 96%; granted Toronto is largely overpopulated, with a vast number of poor families, but that number is just ridiculous. Toronto is a very large and expensive city to live in, but families who are poor, live way below the poverty line. For example, a family of four which is living in Toronto with an income of $35, 455 in 2001 would be living below the poverty line, contrary to the same family living in a small town would not have been below the poverty line, unless their income was less than $24, 502. This surprising statistic from Statistics Canada may suggest that many families might actually be choosing to live in poverty because of the fact that they live in a larger city, and if they moved to a smaller town, they would no longer be living below the poverty line. However, this is the wrong perception to take on poor families; most of them cannot even afford to move because they would not be able to find jobs somewhere else, possibly because of their lack of education. Also, most family’s pre-tax income is less than $25,744 which according to Stats Canada, is living below the poverty line. Poverty does not only affect specifically families or adult individuals, there are many children in Toronto today who are living below the poverty lines. Child poverty rates for children under 18 in Toronto went up between 24% in 1990 to approximately 31%-36% in 1995 and are still relatively at the same percentage today. The following graphs are perfect examples of how child poverty has been steadily increasing over the years in Toronto. In 1995 the number of poor families was 94,430 and in 1998 there were 99,940 poor families in Toronto. Another very surprising statistic from Statistics Canada is that in Toronto, one quarter of families with children are poor. This means that about 25% of all families in Toronto struggle to put a meal on the table for their children everyday. It’s because of the lack of income of poor families that places the Daily Bread Food Bank in Toronto, which is the largest in Ontario, is now a permanent necessity for many families and individuals. This clearly shows that a lot of families with children need to rely on food banks just to live. They almost have no money to spend on groceries, and most of their earnings go towards their children’s clothing and education. At the end, the children end up suffering the consequences of living in poverty anyway. In 1990 the median income for a lone parent with children was approximately $30,000, and two parents was approximately $65,000. In Toronto in 1998 a lone parent with children made $25,000, and two parents with children made approximately $55,000. This statistic from Statistics Canada clearly shows the rapid pace at which more and more families are in Toronto are continuing to fall below the poverty line and are getting poorer and poorer. The graph below illustrates the various types of families which live in poverty, such as single household parents, to a full family of four. This graph clearly shows that the number of single parent mothers under the age of 65 with one to three children generally has increased over the years. A number of economic factors can contribute to such shocking statistics. One main one is that the middle class people are almost non existent in today’s society. Nowadays, there is only the rich, and the poor, the rich simply seem to get richer, and the poor as u can see from the stats, just continue to get poorer. Also, another economic factor which is actively participating in the increasing number of people living in poverty in Toronto is the number of immigrant families in Toronto. A surprising finding by United Way is that immigrant families accounted for two-thirds of the totally family population living in higher poverty neighborhoods. Also, there has been an enormous increase among immigrant family population who are living in higher poverty neighborhoods, almost 484%. In 1981, there were 19,700 poor immigrant families, compared to 115,100 in 2001. Rent also has a big impact on family’s living in poverty. The graph below clearly shows that there is a large incre ase from 1991 to 1995 in the number of households spending more than 30% of their income just on rent. Poverty in Toronto is a major issue and there are many factors which contribute to the vast amount of families and individuals who live below the poverty line. The poverty rates evidently, as unfortunate as it may seem will most probably continue to rise in Toronto and there has been no sign of it declining. Major factors in managing construction of house Assignment

Major factors in managing construction of house - Assignment Example The completion of any project is the successful conglomeration of many factors. Construction of house is also no exception to this. The following factors must be taken care of by the project manager in the ensuring that all activities are completed in time. License from the authority for the construction Availability of wood, nail, gum, plumbing material, wiring material, curtain, carpet etc Availability of Labour Efficient use of resources Completion of each activity in time so that the project can be finished as desired (i)Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of network and the WBS. Advantages of Networking Helps the project manager to concentrate their attention to the critical activities and their completion in time Provides the best way of planning and scheduling a project Give complete information about duration, slackness etc of activities Suggest areas for increasing efficiency and reduction of costs Helps to formulate new schedules and when the existing schedule cannot be met Minimizes delay in completion of the project Disadvantages of Networking The realistic time estimates are not obtained. In the case of new and non-repetitive type of projects, the time estimates are more often mere guesses It is not easy to develop a clear logical network in some cases The level of network details cannot be determined properly in some cases. The level of details varies from planner to planner depending on the judgment and experience Lack of trained personnel in the network methodology. Advantages of WBS Allows the project manager to understand the scope of the project Facilitates the manager to understand the various activities, sub activities and their completion time It provides the frame work to understand the planning and controlling cost of the project It can be revised as and when required by the manger Disadvantages of WBS In case of some projects, certain activities cannot be delineated from other activities because of overlapping The exact deliverables need not be estimated with accuracy in case of all projects The philosophy of WBS preparation may change from firm to firm.
